Drew Central High School senior Matt McKeown was awarded the Arkansas Air Guard Scholar Athlete of the Week on September 23, 2010.
Chad Hooten from Hooten’s football magazine along with Sgt. Ken. Munday surprised McKeown during his AP Chemistry class as Sgt. Munday presented the award. Hooten interviewed McKeown along with Whitney Howard, AP Chemistry teacher and Cindy Sass, McKeown’s Career Action Planning adviser.
“Matt is very motivated and determined in everything he does. He is focused on his academics as well as football. He comes in after practice if he needs help and doesn’t hesitate to ask questions,” Howard said.
Maintaining a 4.1 grade point average, McKeown also plays basketball and is student council president. He is currently considering University of Arkansas at Conway, Harding or Ouachita Baptist University to major in pre-medicine or sports medicine.
“I just felt very surprised and honored to be selected. It was really unexpected” said McKeown.
McKeown is the son of Bud and Nancy McKeown of the Rock Springs community.
McKeown will be featured on Hooten’s Arkansas Football TV show on Saturday, October 2 at 11 a.m. on Channel 11 CBS statewide.
